TAOLA+, Cabo Verde’s national conservation network – of which all six of the PaMAR consortium’s Cabo Verdean NGO partners are members – hosted its Annual Meeting in Tarrafal, Santiago Island, between May 5th-7th this year. Underscoring the vital role and national recognition of this network in biodiversity conservation, the meetings were inaugurated by the Minister of Agriculture and Environment and concluded with an address by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde.
Fauna & Flora Cabo Verde took part in the second day of the meeting to present the principal results of the PaMAR project to date. The presentation highlighted PaMAR’s contributions for the effective implementation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), including technical progresses, community engagement, and the creation of collaborative mechanisms between civil society, researchers, and authorities. Fauna & Flora’s participation emphasised the impact of cooperation between local and international NGOs in addressing environmental challenges and advancing marine biodiversity conservation in the country. The moment also reinforced TAOLA+’s collective commitment to expanding its scope of action with the establishment of dedicated thematic working groups - including one for marine conservation - ensuring a locally led and sustainable approach to protecting Cabo Verde’s natural heritage.
