On 11 May 2025, as part of the PAMAR project, the Guardians of the Sea Programme was launched in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, Santo Antão, in the presence of local fishermen and PaMAR partners Terrimar and Biosfera.

During the meeting, the results of a previous exchange held on the island of Sal were presented where fishermen from various islands learnt first-hand about the experience of the Guardians of the Sea.

One participant, Danilson da Luz Cardoso da Cruz (Didi), shared his transformation after this experience: having considered them competitors for his catch, he used to be known for targeting porpoises and sharks. Fast forward to today, and he has become a passionate advocate for the preservation of these species. Didi highlighted that he has even returned to the sea just to collect rubbish thrown away by other fishers, reinforcing the change in mentality promoted by the programme.

This testimony highlighted the positive impact of the exchange, showing how awareness-raising initiatives can awaken a sense of environmental consciousness and a greater commitment to marine conservation in Cabo Verde
